Oakland Rejects Crackdown on Occupy Port Protests
The right to assemble must be guaranteed; however port and city officials in Oakland need to figure out a cost-effective way of securing port commerce AND protecting rights of protestors. This requires collaboration and engagement among all parties having port-security interests.

Federal Roundup Nabs $76M in Counterfeit Goods
"Authorities in three countries seized 327,000 fake items that if legitimate would carry a suggest retail price of more than $76 million, in a six-week anti-counterfeiting operation. The sweep, which is known as "Operation Holiday Hoax II," brought out U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other agencies, as well as the Mexican and South Korean governments. The investigators targeted flea markets, seaports, land ports of entry, swap meets and retail stores between Nov. 1 and Dec. 9 in 66 U.S. cities, 55 Mexican cities and in Seoul, South Korea. The investigators seized fake handbags, cell phones, toys, computer software, DVDs and sports jerseys. Additionally, they arrested 33 people on charges of trafficking counterfeit goods. Officials in Mexico said 845 inspectors at ports of entry seized nearly 24 million counterfeit products with a U.S. dollar value of $7.1 million."
